An Evening With James Lawrence Aka Man About Country

Discover the Essex you never knew existed at this special evening of storytelling, live music and local legend at Hedingham Castle.

Essex is a county full of surprises - a land of dragons, witches, warriors, myths and legends. But how much do we really know about the place we call home?

Join storyteller, adventurer and natural historian James Lawrence, also known as Man About Country, as he brings his fascinating new book, The Essex Ways: A Walker's Guide to the Stories and Legends of England's Most Fascinating County, to Hedingham Castle.

Following an extraordinary 400km walking adventure through his home county, James set out to uncover the hidden stories, remarkable characters and wild places that make Essex so special, challenging the familiar stereotypes and revealing a side of the county few have discovered.

Set within the atmospheric surroundings of Hedingham Castle's breathtaking Banqueting Hall, this promises to be an engaging and entertaining evening celebrating the history, folklore and unexpected magic of Essex.

Adding to the atmosphere, folk artist Rebecca Leek will provide live music before the talk and during the interval.

Whether you're a lover of local history, folklore, walking, storytelling or simply curious to discover more about Essex, this is an evening not to be missed.

You can pre-purchase James’ new book with your ticket with a special discount for those in attendance. There will also be plenty of copies available for purchase on the night.
